X-No-Archive: Yes
We are looking for a freezer and understand that there are two
manufactures, Frigidaire & Woods, who make most of the "brands."
The discussion is whether to get a large 20 cu ft or a smaller 17 or
even 13 cu ft one. We need recomendations of the best value for the
money. Since, all are supposedly alike, brand would not be important.
In reading Consumer Reports they list Frigidaire and Kenmore as the
top choices; but the article says that those "brand" names are also
the most pricy. The article points out, that other than the brand
name, there is little difference in machines. I am confused as to
why their panel would pick the most expensive models as the top picks?
Why not a GE or something like that instead?
We need help and ideas. The children are almost all gone, so the need
to store a lot of food is now past, but it's now that with 7 children
having left, that we have the money to get the freezer.
Our side-by-side, Hotpoint fridge has about 13 cu ft of space in its
freezer compartment. It is always full, with things falling out.
WE are not juice people so things on the side of the door are not so
important, but a bottom, pull-out basket; frost free; adjustable
shelves; inside light; warniing alarm if freezer should stop working;
QUICK freeze if possible) are.
One daughter works at a furniture store & can get the top of the line
20 cu. ft., Frigidare that has a MSRP of $710 for $450, delievered.
But after reading that a freezer needs to be full, to work well, I am
wondering if having it only half to two-thirds full wll be a problem?
Perhaps we don't need the 20 cu. ft, but shoud go down to a 17 or even
another 13? We looked but it just seemed that the large unit is what
we need, but that may be wrong.
So, we can spend $450 for a very nice, large machine. Or, if we can
go down in size, keeping the same type of features--frost free,
adjustable shelves, etc., perhaps that's what we would shoud do?
We need suggestions of the best value--cost + features and brands to
look at that will be less than the $450 price my daughter can get.
Recomendations please? As I said, we are not picky on the brand, as
long as it does a comperable job.
Thank you.
