Cut decorative shapes, make grooves or trim laminates and carvings with a router. They are sized by the collet ' the part that accepts a bit.

Steps:
1. Remember, the higher the horsepower, the more work the tool can handle. Look for a router rated at least 1hp.

2. Look for a convenient on/off switch, clear plastic chip guard and a built-in work light.

3. Get a 1/4-inch router for most jobs, but keep in mind that a larger router is more versatile. Consider your needs carefully when choosing which size to buy.

4. Make sure that the handles or knobs are comfortable. Try them out. Some are set high on the tool and some are lower. Some are D-shaped and some are round.

5. Be sure that the depth adjuster, which sets the bit depth, is easy to use and conveniently located.

Tips:
Keep the receipt with the manual and other paperwork and send in the warranty card as soon as you get it.

Warnings:
Be sure you read and understand all safety precautions before using your new router.
