Choose the right plane for your project. Using the wrong one can make the job difficult, if not impossible.
Steps:
1. Choose a scrub plane o remove large amounts of wood quickly.
2. Use a jack plane for rough jobs and reducing wide boards.
3. Try a wood jointer plane to prepare wood for edge-to-edge gluing.
4. Get a smoothing plane to lessen rough edges. This type is good for small areas.
5. Make sure the plane has a depth adjuster that is easy to access and use.
