Hi,
I know nothing about small engines... except put gas in it,.. make sure there is good clean oil in it. I was given an older b&g lawnmower. The thing worked a few mows,.. sounded kind iffy but worked. Sounded low in power and fluctuated a tad.
Then tonight the thing wouldn't start. So I refueled, checked oil.. and gave it a pull. It started then died. It seemed to stay running if I tilted the front up in the air a little.. what the?.. then when I set it down it would die.
Then the cord after a few more pulls wont retract back into the thingy.
So I said to myself,.. welp I will yank the spark plug and go get a new one tomorow and try that.
When I removed the spark plug I was treated with a stream of what I think was oil... quit a bit,.. so I quickly placed the plug back in the hole and secured it. Now something just seems wierd about that. Should that much oil be in that part of the engine? It was very black, and smelled mostly like oil.
I cleaned it up and stopped messing with it. I did not try to start again.
The sponge air filter is a little dirty,.. the primer pumps gas in,.. and the engine did turn over and run for a few seconds ocasionally. :)
Any ideas?
joe.
