Front doorway frame - is it a scroll, a prayer...?

HI and thanks for having me.

I have been going crazy trying to figure out what I am seeing hanging
at head level in the entry or front door of peoples homes. It looks
like a little scroll of some sort in a glass vile or brass and glass.
It is hung inside the door frame on the right side at a slight angle.

Does anyone know what the heck these things are? Info would be greatly
appreciated. TY much. -Jeremy
