A standard rule of thumb is that if you plan to be in the same place 2 or more years it is more financially sound to buy than to rent. This is not always the case in all markets, specially now that some of the hot areas have experience a decrease in house values.
To increase the uncertainty the Fed has just reduced the short term interest rates by 0.75 percent points and long term mortgage rates are very low.
Our recommendation is for individuals to work the numbers and decide what is best for them. For assistance in evaluating your local real estate market you can contact a Real Estate Broker or Agent through leadtorealty.com.

I agree with you...especially saying that this is not always the case in all markets, specially now that some of the hot areas have experience a decrease in house values.

Yes, interestingly enough, I have noticed that the prices of rent have gone up. A year ago, the houses in my neighborhood cost just as much as to rent as they did to own. Now, the houses here are rented for $1,500, $1,600 and my mortgage is $1250 (for a 15-yr term!).

Sadly, many people have lost their homes due to foreclosure and now the demand for rented homes seems to be going up.

Yes, is seems like renting becomes more expensive.
I pay $1200 to rant a one-bedroom.
