Twelve years ago we bought a new home in San Antonio TX. We purchased several trees to add to the landscape of our home, one of which is a Chinese tallow tree. It is a beautiful ornamental tree now about 30 feet high, however, the roots have become a problem and we planted it too close to the foundation of the home. There is no evidence of the tree damaging the foundation yet. Having done some recent research on line, I have since discovered that this tree was once cultivated in nurseries and sold as an ornamental tree used for landscaping to people like me; however, it is now classified as a nuisance species in some locations and can no longer be sold. How can I safely remove it? (what time of year, etc). How can I get rid of the extensive roots?

it is now classified as a nuisance species in some locations and can no longer be sold.

Is it the case in your location?

It can no longer be sold but you purchased it 12 years ago so there's nothing to worry about. Why getting rid of it if you like it?
