What is a good amount to spend on a rental?

I'm wondering what you all think is a reasonable percentage of your income to spend on a rental.

I'd always figured that about 1/3 of your income could reasonably allotted to rent and bills. What do you guys and gals think?

No that seems quite unreasonable, because a lot of people still have other debts to cover, and 2/3 of their income probably wont be enough...
