You have just moved into a new house or you have decided that the old one needs some sprucing up. You have always wished that you could paint like a professional but you just never had the knack. Well now you can because I am going to let you in on the secret of turning any bold line drawing, such as clip art or coloring pages, into a wall mural.
This is a great way to decorate a nursery or guest room. You can even go along with a theme for your living room. This is so simple you won't believe you never thought of it!
The first step is to select your drawing. Hunt through all the clip art you can find and check out coloring books at the stores.
The next step is to gather the equipment that makes this simple and easy. Go to an office supply store and buy a vis'a'vis (transparancy pen) and buy a transparency film. Now you need to borrow an overhead projector. Ask the office store if they rent them out or call a local school or library. If you plan to make many murals you can buy the machine for around $100. You will also need a pencil, an eraser, and the paint and paintbrushes to paint the mural.
Let's get started! Lay the transparancy film over your bold line drawing and trace around it with your tranparancy pen. The larger the drawing - the easier it will be. Once you have it traced put it on the overhead projector and shine the image onto the wall. You change the size on the wall by moving the projector closer or farther from the surface you will paint on. The projector will shine the line drawing up onto the wall. Take your pencil and trace all the lines. Do this all at one time because if you move the projector it will be hard to match the lines back up to complete the project.
Congratulations - you now have the basic line drawing to begin your mural. Select the paints (craft acrylics) and begin to fill in the drawing. Use a thin brush and black paint to go back over your pencil lines after you have
painted in all your colors.
Great job! Looks like you hired a professional!
