The Seafood Lover's Almanac Edited by Mercedes Lee, Editor National Audubon Society, 2000, offers genuine help in determining what seafood is in trouble, as well as giving alternative choices. Information on nutrition and health benefits of seafood is also offered, and on how specific seafood is caught or farmed, and recipes.

Each species of seafood has a number of pages devoted to it, a Fish Scale color bar graph. At a glance, you can see how endangered a particular species is. Green shows a fish that is abundant, and well managed. If there are some concerns about a species' status, it ranks a yellow. Seafood in significant danger receives a red.

Fascinating analysis of each species is elaborated upon in the text, also, under categories including How They're Doing, Special Issues, Markets, How They're Caught, and In the Wild.

This excellent article - Troubled Waters - from the San Francisco Chronicle offers eco-friendly choices, and links for more detailed information.
