Oak blight

I have a problem. My oak tree has many of it's limbs with curled up brown leaves. It looks very empty and has some spots that don't grow anything. My neighbor says it is blight and that there is nothing I can do. It is the streets largest tree, and I hate to see it continue to loose it's leaves and limbs without a fight. looking for any advice to fight this.

I dont think there is really much to do except cut it down before it falls.
