This article will teach you how to decorate your trash can to reflect the decor of the particular room in which it sits. This can be one of the finishing touches to any room! The method focused upon here will be "decorating with fabric and collage."

SUPPLIES FOR FABRIC DECORATING:

1. clean trash can with a very smooth surface

2. regular school glue

3. fabric of your choice (ideas below)

4. scissors

5. large piece of paper

6. pencil

DIRECTIONS FOR FABRIC DECORATING:

1. Use the pencil and paper to outline a pattern for the fabric. This will help you to more efficiently cut your fabric to match the size of the trash can.

2. Cut the fabric according to the pattern.

3. Adhere to the trash can using the glue.

4. You are done!

FABRIC IDEAS:

1. fluffy stuffed animal fabrics

2. leopard prints

3. upholstery fabric that compliments or matches the fabric already in the room

4. nursery prints

5. polka dots

Now lets move on to collage decorating!

SUPPLIES FOR COLLAGE DECORATING:

1. scissors

2. glue

3. clear, poly acrylic coating (available at hardware stores - washes up with water)

4. one inch paint brush with smooth, soft bristles

5. magazines, wall paper, your child’s drawings, your drawings, etc.

6. trash can that is clean and smooth

DIRECTIONS FOR COLLAGE DECORATING:

1. Cut out your design ideas, photos, etc. to be applied to the trash can.

2. Glue them to the trash can.

3. Make sure the surface is very smooth and that there are no "air bubbles."

4. Coat the entire surface of the trash can with the clear coating.

5. You are done! Wasn’t that easy?
