It is important to landscape your yard in conjunction with your home's size as well as it's style and structure.
Keep in mind that plants and trees must be in scale and balance with your home as well. A larger, two-story home can accommodate larger flourishing plants, where a smaller one-story home would be served better with dwarf-sized evergreens and smaller plants!
When living in areas without rainfall (example: southern california) be sure to plant non-water-hog plants..
Pest-resistant plants will also reduce the amount of maintenance required. Using dwarf or slow-growing shrubs will reduce pruning and upkeep.
Remember that landscaping should only serve to enhance your home, not to detract attention away! Spend your money wisely by planning the type of shrubs and trees you will purchase in conjunction with the type of home you own.
