I hope someone can give me some suggestions. We now have a very old house
that needs major overhaul. I am trying to just spruce it up a little till
we have the finances to do major work. You know paint and such.

The problem right now is the walls and ceiling. They are in terrible shape.
Some years ago someone put sheetrock on the ceiling and it is the worse job
I have ever seen. All the seams and nails are obvious and the walls are not
much better. Any suggestions for camouflaging this mess with color, texture
or whatever ideas you may come up with. I do not want to sink in a lot of
money nor time right now.

Thanks, Betty

Do you want polite or do you want sincere?

The cheapest coverall is paint but that won't hide a truly rotten
drywall job. What's underneath? Perhaps taking it all down is a viable
solution. Otherwise, there are only so many materials that can cover
lumps. Cloth costs a lot per yard unless you find some surplus bolt
and color it something workable. Drywall muds cost more than paint and
are hell to remove later. Then there's always that famous sprayed
popcorn ceiling, which looks ghastly but is easy to remove later. I
think that's its typical use, to cover up rotten workmanship. It's
bubbly and textural, can be laid on thick enough to hide the raw
uglies.
