I was trying to restart my Craftsman 6.0 hp mulching mower (model #917
376272) and the start cord broke off when I was pulling it. I ordered the
replacement start cord from Sears, but it comes with no directions for
installation. I misplaced my manual too. Can anyone give me directions on
how to replace the start cord? Thanks.

Good Morning TenPlay,
Replacing the starter cord IMO is an 'intermediate' level project- not to
complex (just pull the cover and replace the rope, re-assemble) but has a
few tricky parts to it. The rope MUST be able to pulled all the way out
without binding the spring and able to be COMPLETELY retracted under the
power of the spring.
>I misplaced my manual too.
That's ok, cause that was likely an 'owners' manual that only shows the
basics (this is the gas cap, etc).
I see a couple ways to fix this:
I'd call the local Sears Parts Store and describe what you need. They can
order that manual for you.
Or, another way would be to remove the cover, take that and the replacement
rope to a local mower shop. They could install the rope in minutes and MAY
even do it for nothing.
Good luck!

Thanks for some very helpful suggestions. I especially like the last one to
