scumbuster / swapping batteries?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any insight to this? I recently
bought a scumbuster (model S500), and I wanted to install a VersaPack
Gold battery into it, so that it would last longer on each charge. I
was under the impression that these batteries were easily swapped out,
based on other peoples' reviews that I've read. Has this changed?? It
took me quite an effort to yank the original battery out, and once I
did, it really doesn't look it was meant to be removed... I snapped a
couple loose metal connectors, and the battery itself is in three
small pieces covered in cardboard... oops! And now even with the old
battery out, the new VersaPack Gold still doesn't fit. Was the
swappable battery only supported in older models? I'm hoping I don't
have to buy a new one, but honestly, after seeing the pieces I yanked
out, I'm not very optimistic... :)

Hi Rob

Most rechargeables are glued in place and/or the connections soldered.

That does not mean they can't be replaced, just not normally by the
average consumer. Hence the common label, no user servicable parts
inside on most items these days.

Even common flourescent lights, like the undercounter type, that still
use a transformer and starter, the starter is hidden inside and
considered not serviceable. In other words, the company expects the
purchaser to buy a new fixture, each time the starter goes out.

If you study the contraption a little, you will more than likely
figure out how to get the new battery installed.

If solder is present, one only need a soldering iron and some "wick".
The wick will absorb melted solder off surfaces when using a soldering
iron.

Nan, worked in a plant building circuit boards and electronic
components for 3 years :-)
