View Full Version : silverware restoration

I recently found some of our silverware that had never been used. Now
I'm almost embarrassed to use our well-used silverware. Thirty years
of everyday use has left them dull and scratched. They are stainless,
but I still love them and don't want to give them up. Is there any way
to restore them to their original polish?

There are restoration specialists who restore just about anything for a
price. Stainless flatware is so inexpensive that unless the stuff has great
sentiment value, it won't be worth the price to have it restored to original
condition. I would take the never used pieces to a shop and have them
framed and spend a few dollars for some new flatware. A quick Google search
shows that SILVER flatware costs about $10-$15 per piece to restore with
minimum jobs going as high as $500. I would guess that you would have to
pay more to restore stainless since it is much harder to polish than silver.
