Obviously you haven't tried an exterminator.

Why on earth would anyone pay someone to get rid of ants, that are a
common nuisance this time of year, no matter what?

Nan, Nan, if they're a common nuisance in your home "no matter what",
you're certainly in the right group for advice, as a clean home doesn't
usually attract ants -- although they may be driven in when nests in
the ground get flooded. These are usually pretty easy to get rid of,
though.

However, if the OP has tried "everything" she likely has carpenter ants
damaging her home, and storebought and homemade baits don't usually get
rid of them. They do tend to congregate near a source of water just
as roaches do, so fixing leaky taps and not leaving standing water in
sinks can be of some help.

Jamie, Jamie, everyone I know has ant problems in the spring time.
It's typically exacerbated by having lots of trees near one's home.
Cleanliness or lack thereof has little to do with ants coming in, in
the spring when the weather breaks.
