comforter? this is not a joke. i ruined someone's quilt

Look on the tag for the name of the manufacturer and find out where you can
buy a replacement.

A bed spread is not meant to warm you. It just covers the bed, and down to
the floor. A quilt is usually fairly thin, and has stitching throughout the
entire thing (and just cover the bed). A comforter is thicker/fluffier than
a quilt and does not have that stitching all over it. A comforter is usually
filled with polyester or down.
Does this persons blanket match other things in the bedroom like shams
(pillow coverings), dust ruffle (between bed and floor), etc?
I would own up to it and see if she can tell you where she got it. then go
buy another. If it isn't being made anymore, she can decide on a new "look"
for her bed by getting something new.
