You could try vinegar. If that isn't strong enough, you might try some
muriatic acid from the hardware store.

I'll try the vinegar...the acid is dangerous, no? Is it the same stuff that
the really strong sink uncloggers consist of?

Muriatic acid is an old term for hydrochloric acid. You would probably need
to dilute it for most household jobs - how much I'm not sure. Lime Away and
CLR are phosphoric acid. If you use a lot of the Lime Away, it might pay to
find a source for phosphoric acid. Vinegar is acetic acid. Drain cleaner
is usually a base instead of an acid. The classic drain cleaner is lye.

I've found two cheaper things to use in place of CLR and Lime Away. Lime Away
is very good but CLR was a waste of money by the way....

Anyway, Kash n Karry has a store brand that is about as good as Lime Away for
people who live in the states that have these stores.

The Works also makes a lime and calcium and rust remover that says it's for
showers ... that works well too. I also found a new use for it. My tile floors
in the bathroom had a dingy look where the grout was and clorox didn't do
anything. I poured full strength Works on it and let it sit a minute and then
scrubbed with a brush. I rinsed with water and vinegar mixture and it made the
grout white again.
