SELLERS
Over 60 million people go to garage sales each year. They can be fun, entertaining, and of course a profitable situation for both buyer and seller.

Plan your garage sale. First set the date(s) making sure you will be able to devote the time necessary. Then set out to clean the closets, the basement, storage shed, or wherever you stash those no longer needed items. Anything that is no longer useful to you is garage sale material. Throw nothing away. You are about to learn that what is one person's trash is another person's treasure.

With your goods together and your date set, now it's time to advertise. There are several venues to be utilized - newspapers, internet sites, flyers, signs and word of mouth. The internet offers tons of sites to offer tips, help you make and print your garage sale signs and yes, you can advertise your sale for FREE on the web.

Be sure to have plenty of small bills and change. Nothing can be more frustrating than not being able to cash someone's $20 bill and losing your sale. Then set up your sale allowing plenty of room for people to view the items and browse at leisure.
The morning of your sale, get up very early and be ready! Some garage sale people are up at the crack of dawn. A friendly gesture is to have the coffee pot brewing nearby with some styrofoam cups. As the day progresses, sell cans of cold soft drinks to add to your profits and refresh your shoppers. A garage sale is hard work, but the returns can more than justify the effort.

BUYERS
Arrive the minute the sale starts or 5 minutes sooner. If they have a preview go to that. The good stuff is usually gone within the first hour of the garage sale. If you find something but they won't lower the price, leave your name and number and if they don't sell it ask them to give you a call. The first things to go are children's items, collectibles, kitchen items.
Rainy or cloudy days are good for shopping garage sales, their turnout is low and they are eager to make a sale.
Churches run some of the best sales. Members donate items and they are usually in good shape.
