The way most people waste elec and money is by not turning off appliances which are not in use. If you do turn them off at the wall, then you will save a lot per year

I could not agree more. If you turn off the lights when you are not using them, turn off the tv if you are not watching it, just any little thing like that will save you some money. Its not hard to do.

On the subject, how much electricity does turning off appliances at the wall save, instead of just at the switch.

What the poster means by "dressing appropriately" is that in the winter, don't run around in your boxers and shorts, and in the summer don't wear your winter coat. In the winter, Wear a little warmer clothes indoors to cut down on the cost of heating. And in the summer, wear clothes that are not heavy.
Hope this helps you to understand what he was talking about.

I read somewhere that a 100watt light bulb will increase your light bill by $18 per bulb...per hour(while it's on of course)compared to a 60 watt bulb.
So, if you have any 100's change them to 60.

Here are Some Tips for Saving Electricity in the Living Room:
Install ceiling insulation.
Keep curtains closed. This prevents heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer.
Close off unheated areas.
Don't overheat the room. Increasing the thermostat by 1 degree can increase costs by 3 percent.
Clean heating and air-conditioner filters regularly.
Dress appropriately.
Choose energy-efficient appliances. Compare energy rating labels before you buy.
Turn off appliances when you aren't using them.
Remove dust and fluff from the fan and reflective surfaces of heater to keep clean, efficient and safe.
Hi,
These are useful tips.
Thanks
