General Packing Pointers

* Pack one room at a time. If you like, colour code all the boxes used for the packing of a specific room. Then you can say "Red boxes came out of the master bedroom, so red boxes go into the new master bedroom"

* Complete Inventory Sheets and stick them onto your boxes. Then, not only do you know which room each box came from, but precisely what is in each box. In the comments section of each inventory label, add important information such as "Fragile!" or the location of specific high-value items.

* Pay close attention to the bottoms of cartons. Tape them up if they are sagging or look suspect in any way. You don't want your expensive TV set falling out of the bottom!

* Heavier items should be packed towards the bottom of the box. Be sensible: If you could only manage to find very large boxes, don't pack it full of your heaviest items. It could be a mission just to get the thing off the floor and serious stress is placed on the bottom of the box.

* Soft toys and some clothing may be left in dressers and cabinets and moved with them.
