Wall murals can be an attractive addition to any room in your home. There are countless pictures and scenes in different sizes and shapes on the market today frm which you can choose from. And, installing a wall mural yourself is really not that difficult. It is much like hanging wallpaper.
The first step in hanging your wall mural is to prepare the surface of the wall where you are going to hang it. Make sure the area to be covered is free from holes and other defects. Try not to place your mural on a wall which has light switches or sockets, etc., on it as they will interfere with the appearance of the wall mural. If there are any light switches or electrical outlets within the area that you are going to place the all mural on, then you will need to remove the covers. Next, clean the entire wall with a strong mixture of vinegar and water in order to remove any dirt, grime or grease. Then, rinse it well. The second step is to unroll the wall mural and check to make sure that you have all of the pieces. Next, you will want to determine the exact line where you will start to hang you mural. You will have to make sure it is straight. Do this by hanging a plumb bob and making a chaulk line. THis line should be exactly straight. The third step is to find the first panel. The will be the one farthest left and on the top of the overall picture or scene. Lay it completely flat. Apply a coat of glue to the back of the mural piece. MAKE sure to spread the glue evenly. And, cover the piece from end to end; don't miss the edges or corners. Now, roll the piece up, inside out and let the glue set for several minutes. The fourth step is to carefully apply the piece onto the surface of the wall. Position the left edge of the first piece against the straight line that you made. Unroll it carefully so you don't tear it. Make sure the piece is aligned with the line. Use a finishing brush or a damp cloth to gently brush or wipe out the air pockets that are in the piece. Be especially sure to wipe the edges down so they will stick well. Continue on with the second panel and hang it below the first panel. There is usually a small excess on each panel so that they can be overlapped at the edges, but the overall picture will still be complete. Repeat the process again and again until you have hung up all of the pieces of the wall mural. Remember to remove all of the air pockets and to smooth the edges and corners down well. Use a clean, soft rag which is dampened with warm water to carefully wipe off any excess glue on the wall mural. Now, let the picture dry thoroughly. After it has dried, go back and check all of the pieces and make sure that they are glued down securely. If needed, re-apply glue and press down any loose places again. Now you can sit back and enjoy your new wall mural. |
