If you are tired of your plain flat walls and are thinking of redecorating, why not consider stucco?
Stucco has a great many unseen advantages, it is extremely durable and lasts a very long time, it is decorative and unique as no two stucco walls or ceilings look the same and it stays cleaner than ordinary flat paint because the surface is raised and can not be touched with a whole smudgy finger or hand! You could look in the phone book for one of the thousands of painters or stucco contractors in your area and pay an arm and a leg to have your new stucco room, but why do that when it is simple and easy to do on your own? You can buy stucco in your local hardware store near the paint. Stucco is a fine grained hard plaster which is made up of different ingredients depending upon the stucco, but may contain cement, marble, dust or glue. Buy stucco the same way you would paint, find out how large the area is that you are planning to put stucco on. Some people like to do their ceilings only and some like to do all of the walls in the room. You may even just want to do one wall to provide a sort of change in depth to your room. There are special brushes that are designed for spreading on stucco, if you want the old standard stucco wall which is simply raised a bit, looking like small peaks, you will get a standard stucco brush. Stucco can be applied in many ways and was in fact used a great deal in architecture for sculpting in cathedrals and the like. You can decorate your stucco any way you please and you can even spread it on flat and create designs in it. Cookie cutters, stamps, rags, sponges, anything you can think of can be used to create a unique stucco wall. Use your imagination and experiment a little on a piece of cardboard before you start on the actual wall. Once you finish your stucco wall, you’ll be wanting to do every room! The possibilities are endless and the finished product will last a long time. |
